How it’ll (potentially) work

This is exploratory in nature right now and may change.

  • I worked for many different companies that took up to 70% of my hourly rate, and it drove me crazy. My goal is to allow you the space to advertise yourself as a private tutor and only pay a small fee (currently slated to be $5/hour) in order to help cover for advertising fees.

  • Just like most other tutoring websites, you entirely choose how much you’re willing to work, as well as how much you want to earn. Full-time, part-time, it’s up to you!

  • To ensure that students are only being exposed to qualified, capable, and empathetic tutors, I’ll screen a simple application and schedule a short video call to ensure they’re in good hands. You are still entirely a private tutor, I will not restrict your hours, I will not restrict your pay, nor will I force you to work with any student in particular, but as the organizer of this site I retain the right to decide if you’re a good fit for the mission and pre-med students in general.

  • As an entirely independent tutor, I have felt the struggle of being able to find a sufficient workload of students studying for the MCAT. I am already paying for advertising for this site across a few different platforms, and am inviting you to join my growing network of connections within the pre-med world. I’ve always wished there was a website that was concentrated on the MCAT for tutors that didn’t take a chunk of my wages or was connected to a large company, and I’m hoping that this is it.

  • When you’re available, your profile will be viewable on the website to allow students to sort and find a tutor that matches them. Additionally, students can post listings searching for help and their own requests, allowing you to reach out to them and offer your services as well.

  • Have an issue with the website? Want to contribute in some way? Have advice for how I should be handling things? I’m all ears! I want to make sure that not only does this website provide an added layer of accessibility for MCAT students, but that if you do work through the website, you have a voice in how things are run.

What are we waiting for?

A few things:

  • Legality. I need to ensure that all operations on my end whenever this launches respect both yours and my rights as independent contractors, or as a contractor of MCATalyst. This will take a bit of time.

  • Logistics. This website is still a work in progress, and I would like to ensure that I have most pieces entirely assembled and ready before I begin crowdsourcing for other outstanding tutors.

  • Students. Again, this website just launched, and I need time to see how much traffic of potential students we will have on this website before opening up the website to more independent tutors. I don’t want to make any promises of how many students you could potentially be in service of until I actually see how much traffic the site gets or how many tutoring request forms students fill out.
